Writing the Inverted Pyramid Story

Now that you have studied the inverted pyramid and organized articles in that style it is time to put the new skills that you have learned and practiced to work.

Task: Write a story based on the following facts. Organize the story in the inverted pyramid style. In the story use at least two quotes. The quotes may be either indirect or direct quotes. You must include all of the facts in your story. Do Not COPY & PASTE! Remember you are writing a news article for the front page of a newspaper, so it must be informative and interesting. Facts:

  1. Each year music students from across Florida play in music competitions at the district and state levels.
  2. Thousands of students participate.
  3. Students perform as soloists, in group ensembles, as bands and symphonies
  4. Vocal performers do the same things.
  5. This years music competitions are in March and April.
  6. Groups and soloists practice both during instructional time and in private rehearsals.
  7. This year to prepare for the competitions, CSMS will host a local concert with Miami Symphony Conductor Anne Harrigan set to guest conduct orchestra performance Friday, March 3, 2010.
